Two new species of the genus Hofmaenneria Gerlach et Meyl, 1957 (Nematoda, Monhysterida) from Lake Baikal, Russia.
Two new nematode species of the genus Hofmaenneria Schneider, 1940 found in Lake Baikal, Russia, are described and illustrated. H. obesa sp. n. is characterized by its long body (L=1452-1989 µm), absence of crystalloid bodies and somatic setae, amphidial fovea located comparatively near anterior end of body, short and thick tail (c=7.5-10.0, c'=3.5-6.5), narrow and transversely shaded gymnostom, comparatively long spicules (65-79 µm) and absence of gubernaculum. H. sitnikovae sp. n. is characterized by its medium length and medium thick body (L=946-1439 µm, a=21-35), absence of crystalloid bodies and somatic setae, comparatively short outer labial setae (6-7 µm), amphidial fovea located comparatively near to anterior body, presence of postvulval gland cell and long spicules (45-50 µm).
